Adhesive tape is mainly composed of four parts: substrate, adhesive, release paper (film), and primer.
1. Substrate: This is the “skeleton” of the tape, providing basic physical strength for the tape. Common substrates include various materials, such as BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene film), which has high transparency, good tensile strength, and water resistance. It is widely used in ordinary packaging tapes to provide stable protection during the bundling process; PET (polyester film) material has excellent high temperature resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and is commonly used in the field of electronics and electrical appliances to ensure stable performance of adhesive tape in complex environments, such as circuit board fixation, which often relies on it.
2. Adhesive: It can be called the “soul” of adhesive tape, responsible for achieving the adhesive function of the tape. According to its chemical composition, it can be divided into rubber type adhesives, which have strong adhesion and good initial adhesion, and have excellent adhesion effects on various material surfaces. They are mostly used for pasting paper packaging; Acrylate adhesive has good weather resistance and anti-aging performance, which can be used in outdoor logo pasting, automobile assembly and other scenes, and can remain firmly stuck even after long-term exposure to the sun, rain and temperature changes.
3. Release paper (film): It plays a role in isolation and protection, preventing the adhesive tape from sticking before use. The surface of release paper has been specially treated to have low surface energy, making it difficult for adhesives to adhere. It is commonly found on the paper behind office sticky notes; Release film is often treated with silicone oil coating. For example, in some high-precision electronic tapes, release film can accurately control the unwinding force of the tape, ensuring smooth and flat use of the tape.
4. Primer: Although inconspicuous, it is crucial. It is between the substrate and the adhesive, and its main function is to enhance the adhesion of the adhesive to the substrate. For some substrates with low surface energy, such as plastic films, the primer can build an “adhesion bridge” for the adhesive through chemical bonding and other effects, ensuring the overall structural stability of the tape and avoiding delamination during use.
